Avoid the wonders of a muddy dog in the living room! Work crew headed up by Freedom WOOF’s New Vice President Jeff Raw and muscled Board Members clean up the dog mud slides around the water hydrants for sustainable NO MUD water access!!

Black Dawg Construction prepared frames for the water areas: existing pea gravel was removed and the existing drainage installed by the plumbers evaluated to see that it is working as intended. Then the area was re-leveled and the pre-prepared pea-gravel frames installed. The now enclosed area was filled with pea gravel for good drainage and no mud. This eliminates the need for the city to put straw or bark in those areas after a heavy rain and avoids the incredible wonders of a muddy dog in the living room.

APRIL 22, 2015 :::: KICKSTARTER RAISES $11,501!!!

LINK TO: KickStarter Phase 2 Water Fountains 11.5K Raised!!!

1- 4K was given by generous dog lovers  and 7.5K by David York of Barking Hounds Village towards the fountains.
2- Piping from a City water source is needed. A close-by water source was discovered with a gusher while cleaning up the empty lots around the entrance with machinery. The water pipes are quite ancient and the City may need to replace the line to the street, water may be a complex operation. Hopefully the City will keep it simple and just use the old pipes!!!and eventually a land developer will come along and pay for new pipes:)

MARCH 21, 2015 at 1PM :::: GRAND OPENING!!!
Creative Loafing Article

Ribbon Cutting by Councilman Kwanza Hall and Joan Garner Fulton County Commissioner, Vid Below of this WELL appreciated Park:

2- YO BOULEVARD!!!: City Councilman Kwanza Hall designated 10K at the Yo Blvd festivities.
3- Joan Garner Fulton County Commissioner for District 6 (and Grand Marshal at the HOWL with a standard poodle on a Ghost Dog Pirate Ship) has been seriously getting this community amenity on the table, and here it is!
4- WATER IS A (COMPLEX) REALITY!!! A close-by water source was discovered with a gusher while cleaning up the area with machinery. With BARKING HOUNDS fulfilling our 10K water fountain goal, water is SOON to be. The water pipes are quite ancient and the City may need to replace the line to the street, water may be a complex operation.
5- Below is a vid of fences being put up, we’ve come a long way baby!!!!

A chain-link fence is being put in by the City, reusing existing iron wrought fencing where possible. (FYI: ALL wrought iron fencing is vastly preferred and roundly recommended by all the City Committees, Boards, the UDC and the Freedom Parkway Conservancy. It will be installed when the money is there.) Below is a cost estimate of the essentials and non-essentials:

Phase 1 : Minimum Requirements

Complete Fence

($30K) –chainlink/reuse existing wrought iron
($55K) –half chainlink/half wrought iron
($75K) –all wrought iron is preferred by all!

Waste Stations x 3

($5K- Barking Hound Village Donated- WOOF!!)

Phase 2

Water Meter and Lines

(City of Atlanta?)

Phase 3

Human/Dog Water Stations x 3

Phase 4

Concrete Work

$65K – $110K

Phase 5

Complete Fence

($75K) –all wrought iron fence

($500 each)

Big Rocks (For sitting)

Crushed Granite Paths

“Splash Pads”

($10K) A round concrete area with spigots, water hoses and child play pools —studies have shown this to be highly cost and maintenance effective.

Dog Maneuvering Course/ Play Equipment

1- City of Atlanta Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is installing the fence.
2- We have applied for a water meter, and after that is installed, we will contract with a plumber to install water lines and prepare for installation of the dual watering stations that will serve both two legged and four legged guests at Freedom Barkway.
3- When we reviewed the survey for the property lines, we discovered that we had more land that was part of Freedom Barkway than was originally planned, and we want to provide as much space for the dogs to run and play as possible. See Building Plans.

1- With all of the fencing, plumbing, landscaping, concrete and other site preparation work, we can always use in-kind donations from experts in a particular field to lead our willing group of volunteers to bring Freedom Barkway from concept to reality.
2- If there is anyone who can take existing video footage and photos that we have and create a piece that we can use for marketing. If we have that, then we can use it for URUUT or any other fund raising effort that we might try.
3- We need volunteers for our Pooch Parties each month, email Michael Reeves here: volunteer@freedombarkway.com.
